Next event in the Southwold Concert Series:

Saturday February 13th, 7:30pm - Mark Simpson, clarinet, and Ian Buckle, piano

Mark Simpson is the only person to have won both the BBC Young Musician of the Year and BBC Proms/Guardian Young Composer of the Year. Undoubtedly one of the UK's most exciting and dynamic young musicians, Mark comes to Southwold to perform a programme of both traditional and contemporary clarinet works, featuring Debussy's Premiere Rhapsodie, Brahms Sonata in E flat and Weber's brilliant Grand Duo.

As part of his deep commitment to the performance of new music, Mark will also perform works written specially for him by distinguished UK composers Patrick Nunn and Kenneth Hesketh, as well as a recently composed work by Mark-Anthony Turnage.

Kenneth Hesketh has had work performed by artists such as London Sinfonietta, BBC Philharmonic, BCMG, English National Opera/Almeida, under conductors including Sir Simon Rattle, Oliver Knussen and Martyn Brabbins. He is also a professor of composition and orchestration at the Royal College of Music. Click here to listen to music by Kenneth Hesketh on MySpace.

Patrick Nunn's music has been featured at over forty festivals worldwide, working with a range of collaborators including Diego Masson, Ballet Rambert and the Composers Ensemble. He teaches compositional techniques at the Royal Academy of Music. Click here to listen to Patrick Nunn's 'Music of the Spheres' on YouTube.
